Stanford University Research Ranks Indians Among World’s Most Laziest Nations

In a recent study spanning 46 countries, India has emerged as one of the least active nations globally. Securing the 39th position in terms of daily step count.

According to the research, which was published in the prestigious Nature journal and conducted by scholars from Stanford University, the average number of steps taken by Indians in a day amounts to a mere 4,297.

The investigation hinged on data collected from approximately 700,000 individuals across these 46 countries. Researchers utilized step-counting applications embedded in smartphones to gather the data. Surprisingly, the country that clinched the top spot for the most active population was China, particularly among those residing in Hong Kong, who averaged an impressive 6,880 steps daily.

In stark contrast, Indonesia emerged as the least active nation, with a paltry average of 3,513 daily steps. Among the list of countries with low step counts, Malaysia and Saudi Arabia also featured, with their populations barely clocking in less than 3,900 steps each day.

The study further revealed a gender discrepancy within India, with women averaging a mere 3,684 steps compared to men’s more substantial count of 4,606 steps daily.
