A recent survey conducted by Ipsos Pakistan has revealed that the majority of Pakistani youth prefer to remain in their homeland rather than seek permanent residence abroad. The survey, which took place from September 20 to 27, 2024, gathered responses from over 1,600 participants aged between 18 and 34.
According to the findings, 74% of the youth expressed a strong desire to stay in Pakistan and contribute to its development, while 26% indicated their willingness to relocate permanently if given the opportunity.
Among those willing to emigrate, the Middle East emerged as the top destination, with 30% favoring Saudi Arabia and 20% preferring Dubai. Other popular choices included the United Kingdom (9%), Canada (8%), and the United States (8%).
The survey highlighted regional and socio-economic trends among respondents. Youth from Islamabad and the upper-middle class showed a greater inclination to move abroad, with 46% of Islamabad residents expressing interest in relocation. In contrast, only 27% from Punjab and 20% from Sindh shared the same sentiment.
