The United Arab Emirates is counting the cost after its heaviest rainfall in 75 years caused widespread flooding and devastation. The downpour, which began on April 15th, turned streets into rivers, paralyzed Dubai’s international airport, and tragically claimed the lives of at least four people.
Dubai slowly recovers from floods…
In response to the disaster, the UAE government announced a significant investment of $544 million to repair the homes of Emirati families impacted by the floods. This move comes after a week of disruption, highlighting the need for improved infrastructure resilience.
Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE President, has ordered a swift review of the country’s infrastructure following the “historic weather event.” The unprecedented nature of the storm, which some experts link to climate change, exposed vulnerabilities in drainage systems and emergency response measures.

While Dubai, the financial hub of the UAE, is slowly getting back on its feet with public transport resuming and roads reopening, many residents still face a long road to recovery.
