US, UK, Germany & France Re-Affirm Support For Ceasefire Plan In Gaza

In a unified stance, the US, UK, Germany, and France have restated their “full support” for a Washington-backed ceasefire plan in Gaza.

This announcement comes as the 80th D-Day anniversary is commemorated, emphasizing the urgent need for an end to hostilities, the release of hostages, increased humanitarian aid, and a long-term solution to ensure the safety of both Israeli and Gazan civilians.

The joint statement highlighted the urgent need to restore vital services in Gaza, such as healthcare facilities, bakeries, electricity and water supply, while also addressing debris removal and laying the groundwork for long-term reconstruction.

The four nations have urged Hamas to fully accept a comprehensive proposal that has already been agreed to by Israel. They called on both parties to promptly implement the plan to bring an end to the ongoing conflict. The statement also reaffirmed these countries’ commitment to mediate between the conflicting sides.

The leaders emphasized their support for a negotiated two-state solution, recognizing it as the only viable path to fulfilling the legitimate aspirations of both peoples for peace and security. They stressed the importance of a clear path towards a peaceful, secure, and independent Palestinian state alongside Israel.

The countries also reiterated their support for the Palestinian Authority and its reform initiatives, advocating for increased regional and international support, including revenue transfers from Israel. They highlighted the need for reestablishing legitimate Palestinian governance in Gaza with adequate international support, ensuring Israel’s security needs are met.

The statement concluded with a call for maximum restraint from all parties to avoid further regional escalation, emphasizing the stability of Lebanon, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
