A shadow has been cast over the USA’s historic T20 World Cup victory against Pakistan on Thursday, with American bowler Rusty Theron accusing Pakistani pacer Haris Rauf of ball tampering.
Theron, a 38-year-old seamer who previously played for South Africa but is not part of the current USA squad, took to social media platform ‘X’ to make the accusation.
He claimed that Rauf was seen deliberately scratching the ball with his fingernails after only two overs, causing it to reverse swing – a technique that can make the ball deviate significantly in mid-air.
Theron went further, criticizing the International Cricket Council (ICC) for allegedly overlooking the incident. “Are we just going to pretend Pakistan isn’t scratching the hell out of this freshly changed ball?” he wrote, tagging both the ICC and USA Cricket.

The accusations come after a thrilling match in Dallas, where the USA pulled off a major upset by defeating the former champions in a super over. Rauf, named as the bowler Theron accused, had a challenging game, conceding the most runs (37) for Pakistan in his four overs.
