Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has come under fire from Australian media following a heated mid-pitch incident with debutant Sam Konstas during the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The clash led to Kohli being branded a “clown” and “crybaby” by Australian publications, including The West Australian, which published a critical headline calling out the Indian batter.
The altercation occurred during the 10th over on the first day of the Test when Kohli was seen bumping shoulders with Konstas, leading to a verbal exchange between the two players. Australian opener Usman Khawaja stepped in to mediate and calm the situation.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has since penalized Kohli for breaching Level 1 of its Code of Conduct, specifically Article 2.12, which addresses inappropriate physical contact during a match. Kohli received a fine amounting to 20% of his match fee and one demerit point.

Commenting on the incident, BCCI President Roger Binny stated, “These things happen on the cricket ground. You have to accept it and carry on to ensure the game continues smoothly.”
The incident has sparked widespread debate, with Australian media’s strong criticism adding fuel to the ongoing rivalry between the two cricketing nations.
