In a recent development, the Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted a 13-day extension to the Inspector General (IG) of Punjab to locate and recover anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan, who has been missing since his arrest in Sialkot on May 11. The court’s decision came during a hearing of a petition filed by Imran Riaz’s father, who has been desperately seeking information about his son’s whereabouts.
IG Punjab’s remarks
During the hearing, IG Punjab Usman Anwar informed the court about positive progress in the efforts to recover Imran Riaz. He requested additional time, assuring the court that significant developments would be reported within the next 10 to 15 days.
The Chief Justice Ameer Bhatti-led bench emphasized the need for tangible progress in the case and agreed to the extension, granting 10 more days for updates on the recovery efforts.
Furthermore, the court instructed IG Punjab to meet with Imran Riaz’s father and the legal team, allowing them a one-hour meeting to discuss the matter later that evening.

An abduction First Information Report (FIR) has already been registered at the Civil Line police station, with abduction charges filed against unknown individuals. The case remains a matter of concern, highlighting the importance of swiftly resolving such cases and ensuring the safety and well-being of individuals in custody.
