A tourist from China has lost her life in a heartbreaking accident while attempting to capture the perfect sunrise photo at Indonesia’s Mount Ijen volcano.

The victim, identified as 31-year-old Huang Lihong, was reportedly posing near the crater’s edge when she fell 75 meters to her death, according to an international media outlet. Lihong and her husband were part of a guided tour group visiting the volcano, known for its mesmerizing “blue fire” phenomenon.

Tragedy struck while the couple attempted to capture sunrise photos from the rim. Reports suggest Lihong’s clothing became snagged, causing her to lose footing and fall backward over the edge. Her husband could only watch helplessly as the accident unfolded.

Local authorities report that the tour guide had repeatedly warned the group about the dangers of venturing too close to the crater’s edge while posing for photos. A haunting image released after the incident shows Lihong seemingly carefree, posing on the volcano’s rim with the rising sun and volcanic gases as a backdrop.

Rescue efforts reportedly took over two hours, with Lihong’s body ultimately being transported back to China. Her death has been ruled an accident, serving as a stark reminder of the inherent dangers associated with active volcanoes.
