On Tuesday morning, the Taj Mahal, one of India’s most iconic landmarks, was temporarily closed after receiving a bomb threat that prompted a high-security alert. Over 1,500 tourists were swiftly evacuated from the site while bomb squads and dog units thoroughly combed the premises for any potential explosives.
The threat, which was communicated via email to the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department’s local office, stated that an explosive device had been planted at the monument. The message, sent at 7:53 a.m., was not accessed until the office opened at 11:00 a.m., which led to a brief delay in initiating the response.
Once the threat was opened, security agencies, including the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and local police, immediately sprang into action, heightening their vigilance around the monument.
Deepti Vats, the deputy director of the state tourism department, confirmed that the email was forwarded to the appropriate security agencies, who took immediate action to ensure public safety. Fortunately, no explosives were found, and the situation was later deemed to be a hoax.
