Lahore’s severe smog crisis has intensified to the point where it is now visible from space, as shown in recent satellite images from NASA. The dense haze has blanketed Lahore and much of northern India, creating a dark, hazardous cloud over the region.

On Tuesday, Swiss air quality company IQAir ranked Lahore as the most polluted city globally, surpassing New Delhi and Kinshasa, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) marked as “very hazardous.” The thick smog poses serious health risks, especially to vulnerable groups. UNICEF has issued a stark warning, highlighting the threat to over 11 million children under five.

The smog has led to numerous hospitalizations, including children, and has forced the closure of schools and public spaces in Lahore. Experts attribute the smog to factors like agricultural burning, emissions from coal plants, heavy traffic, and stagnant weather.
