On Friday, a Lahore district and sessions court ordered the incarceration of popular anchorperson Imran Riaz Khan in connection with a corruption case. Riaz was apprehended from his residence in a dramatic arrest that circulated widely on social media, facing accusations alongside his father regarding a contract related to Dharabi Lake in Chakwal.

Imran Riaz Khan’s late-night arrest

Imran Riaz Khan presented before Judicial Magistrate Imran Abid by the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) had his legal team argue the basis of the charges. His lawyers, Rana Maroof and Advocate Azhar Siddique insisted on the absence of evidence supporting the allegations, emphasizing that Riaz’s father had no government service record.

During the hearing, Riaz passionately defended himself, decrying the arrest as an overreaction and emphasizing his commitment to fighting corruption. He claimed the handcuffs were a symbolic gesture aimed at political figures and criticized the handling of the situation, asserting his father’s innocence.

Despite the legal battle waged by Riaz’s defense, the court ultimately dismissed the ACE’s plea for a 14-day physical remand, citing the absence of any necessary recovery. However, Riaz, now confined to judicial lockup for 14 days, awaits his next court appearance on March 8.
