Pavel Durov, the founder and CEO of Telegram, was arrested by French police on Saturday evening after his private jet landed at Le Bourget Airport. The arrest followed complaints from Telegram users about the app’s lack of moderation, which has led to its misuse for criminal activities.
Durov’s arrest comes at a time of heightened scrutiny of Telegram, which has been criticized for hosting illegal content such as drug trafficking, sex exploitation, and child abuse. The Russian Foreign Ministry is working to clarify the situation but has expressed skepticism about the influence of Western NGOs on his release.
Pavel Durov, a Russian entrepreneur, co-founded Telegram in 2013. He is known for his significant wealth, with a net worth of $15.5 billion. The tech entrepreneur, who is known for his reclusive lifestyle and preference for solitude, shared that he was unaware of his many biological offspring until recently.
Durov explained that his journey into sperm donation began 15 years ago when a close friend struggling with infertility asked for his help. Upon visiting the clinic, Durov was informed that he was considered “top-tier donor material,” with the potential to assist couples worldwide.
Although initially skeptical, he found the concept intriguing enough to proceed with the donations.
