Durov’s arrest comes at a time of heightened scrutiny of Telegram, which has been criticized for hosting illegal content such as drug trafficking, sex exploitation, and child abuse. The Russian Foreign Ministry is working to clarify the situation but has expressed skepticism about the influence of Western NGOs on his release.

Although initially skeptical, he found the concept intriguing enough to proceed with the donations.
