Babar Azam Becomes World’s First Batsman To Surpass 1000 T20 Runs In 2024

Pakistan’s Babar Azam, the prolific batsman has set a new record by becoming the first cricketer to score 1000 T20 runs in 2024. This is the fifth time that Babar has achieved this feat in his career and he’s showing no signs of slowing down.

Babar… not slowing down

Playing for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9, Babar has been in scintillating form, leading his team to the playoffs with some great performances.

Before joining Peshawar Zalmi, Babar was playing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) for Rangpur Riders where he amassed 251 runs in just six innings, including two half-centuries. Since then, he’s gone on to score one century and six half-centuries in the PSL.

His closest rival on the T20 batting charts for 2024 is Rassie van der Dussen, who plays for Lahore Qalandars.Despite his team’s early exit from the tournament, van der Dussen had a superb individual outing, making him one of the top-scoring T20 batters this year.

Babar’s success has been the result of his consistency and hard work and he has become a mainstay in Pakistan’s T20I lineup. Recently, he expressed his preference for opening the batting instead of playing in the one-down position, a move that many believe could benefit Pakistan in the future.
