Cyclone “Biparjoy” Intensifies & Moves Closer To Karachi, Authorities On High Alert

The east-central Arabian Sea has been witnessing an alarming weather phenomenon intensifying. The very severe cyclonic storm named ‘Biparjoy’ has now escalated into an “extremely severe cyclonic storm.”

As per the latest update from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD)’s cyclone warning center, Biparjoy has moved further northward and is currently located approximately 600 kilometers south of Karachi.

Wind storms & heavy rainfall expected in Karachi

The potential trajectory of the cyclone indicates that it is likely to hit the south-southeast region of Sindh and the adjoining Gujarat coast in India. However, the exact location of landfall is expected to become clearer in the coming days.

As the cyclone approaches the southeast Sindh coast, widespread weather disturbances can be expected. This includes episodes of wind dust, thunderstorms, and heavy rainfall. In particular, the districts of Thatta, Sujawal, Badin, Tharparker, Mirpurkhas, and Umerkot are projected to experience significant rainfall with some areas likely to encounter extremely heavy downpours.

Additionally, squally winds ranging from 80-100 kilometers per hour, gusting up to 120 kilometers per hour, are also anticipated in these regions from the 13th to the 17th of June.

Preventive measures should be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals and communities in the face of this impending natural disaster.
