ECP Announces Public Holiday On February 8th On Account Of General Elections

Earlier this week, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued a notification announcing February 8th as a public holiday, when general elections will be taking place in the country. It is to facilitate the citizens so that they can prepare and cast their votes in the upcoming elections.

The decision was taken in a meeting held in the Electoral Authority’s Office in Islamabad where discussions about the law-in-order situation of KPK and Baluchistan were also raised. However, all government and private educational institutes will also be closed on that day.

After the official announcement, the Caretaker CM Punjab, Mohsin Naqvi also posted on X regarding the issue. “Given the upcoming general elections on February 8, the Provincial Cabinet has approved that all public and private sector schools, colleges, and universities in Punjab will be closed from February 6 to 9th.”

As for the electoral authorities, all these steps are taken to ensure smooth and harmless completion of the election process, which includes a lot of political activity, institutions becoming polling stations, and more procedures that need focus with a priority of keeping the nation away from any untoward incidents.
