Gaza Cola, a beverage created in the United Kingdom, is making a significant impact as a “genocide-free” alternative to major soda brands. Launched in November 2023 by activist and restaurateur Osama Qashoo, the drink serves as more than just a refreshment—it’s a statement of support for Palestine. Its cherry-red cans, adorned with the Palestinian flag and keffiyeh patterns, symbolize resistance and hope.
Qashoo, co-founder of London’s Hiba Express restaurant, created Gaza Cola to boycott companies accused of supporting Israeli aggression. He describes it as “the real taste of freedom.” Since its debut, over 500,000 cans have been sold, with all profits directed toward rebuilding the maternity ward at Gaza’s al-Karama Hospital.
Initially sold in Palestinian eateries like Hiba Express, Gaza Cola quickly gained traction among UK retailers, particularly Muslim-owned stores like Manchester’s Al Aqsa, which recently reported selling out due to high demand. Despite its higher price—£12 for a six-pack compared to Coca-Cola’s £4.70—consumers are drawn to its mission and message.
Creating Gaza Cola wasn’t without challenges. Qashoo faced pressure to alter its design and branding but refused to compromise. Produced in Poland to reduce costs, the drink reflects a commitment to clear messaging and meaningful impact.

Aligned with the global movement to boycott brands linked to Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territories, Gaza Cola aims to influence corporate behavior by targeting revenue streams. Qashoo hopes every sip reminds people of Palestine’s ongoing struggle, saying, “It’s a message of resistance and hope for future generations.”
