The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has officially set the stage for the country’s upcoming general elections, which are scheduled to take place in the last week of January 2024. This long-awaited announcement comes after a period of uncertainty, primarily stemming from the need to carry out new delimitations in accordance with the latest census data.

According to the ECP’s recent statement, a preliminary list of these delimitations will be unveiled on September 27, providing a vital first look at the redefined constituencies. The final list of constituencies will be published on November 30 after taking into consideration any objections and suggestions related to the delimitations from various stakeholders.

Following this critical phase, the electoral process will proceed with a 54-day election schedule, ultimately culminating in the general elections in January 2024. The ECP’s decision to provide clarity regarding the election timeline has quelled concerns of potential delays in the polls, which arose due to the necessity of a new census and subsequent delimitation process.
