Richard Grenell, the former U.S. ambassador and special envoy chosen by President-elect Donald Trump, has expressed his desire to see Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former Prime Minister Imran Khan released from prison.

Speaking to a U.S. news outlet, Grenell compared the allegations against Khan to the political challenges faced by Trump, suggesting both leaders were targeted by ruling parties through questionable accusations.

In an interview with NEWSMAX, Grenell remarked, “There are a lot of the same allegations just like President Trump, where the ruling party put him in prison and created some sort of corruption allegations and false allegations.” He emphasized his support for Khan’s release, adding, “I would like to see Imran Khan be released from jail.”

Grenell also stated that it should ultimately be the people of Pakistan who decide Khan’s political future. “The people of Pakistan should determine if Imran Khan wants to run for office,” he asserted, underscoring the importance of democratic decision-making.

As President-elect Trump’s special envoy for special missions, Grenell’s remarks highlight a growing international focus on Imran Khan’s imprisonment and its implications for Pakistan’s political landscape.

His call for Khan’s release resonates with those advocating for fair legal proceedings and democratic integrity in Pakistan. Whether this stance influences diplomatic relations or Pakistan’s domestic politics remains to be seen.
