The Iranian government has responded to an incident where a young woman removed her clothes at Tehran’s Islamic Azad University, describing her as a “troubled individual” rather than a security risk. Government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani stated that the focus is on addressing the women’s mental health needs rather than treating the situation as a security issue.

Identified as Ahoo Daryaei on social media, the woman reportedly undressed on campus on Saturday and was detained by university security guards. She was then transferred from the police station to a treatment center, although officials did not specify the type of care she was receiving.

“It’s too soon to discuss her return to university,” Mohajerani said, explaining that Daryaei’s treatment must be completed first.

According to a video posted by her husband, Daryaei is experiencing severe mental distress. A university spokesperson, Amir Mahjob, confirmed on social media that she showed signs of a mental health disorder while at the police station.

The government’s approach to the incident highlights a focus on social support, aiming to address mental health needs over punitive measures in this case.
