The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has permitted dairy farmers to mix up to 8% water into milk. This decision was announced by Provincial Food Minister Zaher Shah Toro during a session in the KP Assembly. The minister revealed that 583 milk samples were tested from various regions across the province. Shockingly, only 7.2% of these samples were found to be completely pure and free from harmful substances.

The remaining samples contained various adulterants, raising serious concerns about the quality of milk being sold to the public. Minister Toro also highlighted the alarming use of formalin, a chemical preservative, in milk. Excessive use of formalin not only compromises the quality of milk but also significantly increases the risk of cancer for consumers.

In response to these findings, authorities have taken strict action, closing down shops that were found selling milk with dangerous levels of formalin. The government’s measures aim to protect public health by ensuring that the milk available in the market is safe and of high quality.
