Lahore Faces Historic 3-Hour Rainfall, Breaks 44-Year Record

Lahore recently experienced a historic rainfall event, with an astonishing 350 millimeters of rain falling within just three hours. This downpour broke a 44-year-old record and caused widespread flooding across the city.

Major roads, including Mall Road and Ferozepur Road, were submerged, leading to severe traffic disruptions and power outages. Around 288 feeders from the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) were affected, leaving many areas without electricity.

Homes and even Services Hospitals were flooded, impacting daily life and healthcare services. The Lahore airport recorded the highest rainfall at 337 millimeters, while other parts of the city also faced heavy downpours.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met Office) has warned of continued heavy rains across the country until August 6. Strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are expected to bring more rain to various regions, worsening the already challenging conditions.
