In a shocking development, Aliya Fakhri, the sister of famous Bollywood actress Nargis Fakhri, has been arrested in New York for her alleged involvement in a tragic fire that claimed two lives. The victims, Edward Jacobs—Aliya’s ex-boyfriend—and his friend Anastasia Ettienne, reportedly died from smoke inhalation and thermal injuries.
According to Indian media citing the Queens District Attorney, Aliya is accused of setting fire to a two-story garage on November 2, where the victims were sleeping. Witnesses claim she shouted, “You are all going to die today”, before igniting the blaze at around 6:20 AM.
Ettienne reportedly woke up to the flames and tried to alert Jacobs before returning upstairs, but the fire spread too quickly, trapping both inside. Investigations suggest that Aliya may have been struggling to move on after Jacobs ended their relationship a year ago.
Jacobs’ mother revealed that her son had made it clear their relationship was over, while Aliya’s mother denied the allegations, describing her as a caring individual incapable of such violence.

Aliya faces multiple charges, including murder and arson, and could be sentenced to life imprisonment if convicted. Her bail request has been denied, and her next court appearance is scheduled for December 9.
Nargis Fakhri has yet to comment on the incident, which has brought shock and grief to both families.
