An explosion near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Sunday night claimed one life and injured 11 others, including a foreign national. The blast, which ignited at least 10 vehicles, created panic in the area as emergency services and law enforcement rushed to the scene.

Crime Investigation Department (CID) Director General Asif Ejaz Shaikh stated that the exact nature of the explosion remains unclear, with investigations ongoing.

However, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar, in an interview with Geo News, revealed that the explosion was likely caused by a suspected improvised explosive device (IED). Among the injured was a foreign national, although the extent of injuries is yet to be disclosed.

Earlier, a statement from the home minister’s office had reported that the explosion was initially believed to be caused by a tanker blast on Airport Road. Lanjar confirmed he was in direct contact with the Malir senior superintendent of police (SSP) regarding the incident.
