Pakistan Falls to Last in World Test Championship, Shan Masood’s Captaincy at Risk

Pakistan’s struggles in Test cricket hit a historic low as they dropped to the bottom of the World Test Championship standings following their sixth consecutive defeat. In an unprecedented result, Pakistan became the first team in 147 years to lose a Test match after scoring over 500 runs in their first innings. England’s victory by an innings and 47 runs in the first Test in Multan exposed the team’s ongoing issues, including a lack of consistency and resilience.

Skipper Shan Masood, under immense pressure, reflected on the disheartening defeat, acknowledging the team’s failure to capitalize on their strong first-innings total of 550. “When you put up 550 on the board, it’s important to back it up with 10 wickets,” Masood stated, lamenting the team’s inability to dismiss England’s batsmen.

With Abrar Ahmed sidelined on Day 5, Pakistan’s bowlers struggled to penetrate England’s lineup. As Masood’s leadership comes under scrutiny, his position as Test captain is now uncertain, adding to the mounting pressure on Pakistan to turn things around in future matches.
