Tonight, August 19, 2024, Pakistan will experience a rare astronomical event—the Super Blue Moon—at 11:26 PM local time. This marks the nation’s first Super Moon of the year, with the next three expected on September 18, October 17, and November 15.
The Super Blue Moon will appear about 14% larger and brighter than usual due to its close proximity to Earth, approximately 226,000 miles away. This phenomenon occurs because the Moon’s orbit is elliptical, bringing it closer to Earth at certain times.

While the term “Blue Moon” does not imply a color change, it originates from a rare 19th-century event that gave the Moon a bluish hue due to volcanic activity. The term “Once in a Blue Moon” now signifies a rare event. The Moon itself doesn’t grow but appears larger due to its closer position.
