PMD Issues Alert As Tropical Cyclone Forms Approximately 1500km South Of Karachi

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning about the potential formation of a tropical cyclone over the Southeast Arabian Sea.

PMD’s alert for Karachi

In an alert published on its website, the PMD stated that a low-pressure area (LPA) in the region has strengthened into a Depression, or a strong LPA, located approximately 1500km south of Karachi at Latitude 11.5 N and Longitude 66.0 E.

According to the PMD, the environmental conditions are favorable for the system to intensify into a tropical storm in the next 18 to 24 hours. Factors such as a sea surface temperature of 30-31°C, low vertical wind shear, and upper-level divergence contribute to the system’s potential intensification.
