Indebted Policeman In Larkana Sets Himself On Fire To Escape Moneylender’s Harassment

In a tragic incident, a desperate policeman in Larkana set himself on fire at his home in Luhar Colony. Gulzar Ali Mugheri, a father of four, took this extreme step to escape the relentless harassment of a moneylender.

Mugheri is now in Chandka Medical College Hospital with 40% burns. He told journalists that he had borrowed Rs.500,000 from Waheed Shahani, a private moneylender, in 2018.

The loan came with a very high interest rate. Despite repaying around Rs.1.5 million over the past five years, the debt kept growing because of the interest.

“He has my ATM card and withdraws my salary regularly”, Mugheri said. He also accused several policemen of helping Shahani to keep him distressed.

This incident highlights the severe consequences of unregulated lending practices. Authorities are urged to investigate and provide support to Mugheri and others trapped in similar situations.
