Sanam Javed, a prominent PTI activist, was released on Thursday following a landmark ruling by the Islamabad High Court, which deemed her arrest unlawful and allowed her to return home to Punjab. Javed had been detained for over a year, facing multiple charges stemming from the May 9, 2023 riots.

The court’s decision, issued on Monday, ordered her immediate release and cautioned against any further arrests. Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, presiding over the case, restricted Javed from leaving Islamabad and urged her to refrain from controversial statements.

Earlier attempts to secure her freedom were marred by subsequent arrests in different jurisdictions, highlighting the legal complexities she faced. However, Thursday’s verdict, pronounced after a plea filed by her father, affirmed her right to liberty.

In response, Attorney General of Pakistan Mansoor Usman Awan assured that Javed would not face further legal actions. Her lawyer, Mian Ali Ashfaq, confirmed plans to withdraw all pending cases against her, including those in Islamabad and Balochistan.
