In recent news, the Punjab government has established a working group comprising 18 departments to oversee the preparation of Project Concept One (PC-1) for the proposed glass train project, set to run from Rawalpindi to Bhurban Murree.

The group, chaired by the Punjab transport minister, includes key officials such as the Rawalpindi commissioner, deputy commissioners of Rawalpindi and Murree, and other relevant department heads.

The proposed 65-kilometer rail track will connect Rawalpindi’s Saddar area to Bhurban Murree, passing through scenic landscapes including the Margalla Hills and Barakahu. This project, named the Murree Rail Link, is part of the larger Murree Development Plan aimed at enhancing infrastructure and tourism in the region.

The National Engineering and Scientific Commission (NESCOM) has already begun work on the project’s feasibility study. Once the feasibility report is complete, the cost and timeline for completion will be determined based on the PC-1. Drone footage of the proposed route has also been captured to assist in the planning process.

The working group is tasked with addressing potential challenges such as land acquisition and recommending solutions to the government. The final decision on additional stations and project specifics will follow the completion of the PC-1. The group’s goal is to complete the project efficiently and cost-effectively.
