Former Pakistan captain and esteemed commentator Ramiz Raja has expressed his reservations about the comeback of pacer Mohammad Amir into the national cricket fold. Amir, who recently rescinded his retirement, is currently part of the fitness camp underway in Kakul, Abbottabad.
Ramiz Raja on Amir taking back retirement
Ramiz Raja’s stance on the matter is unequivocal. He firmly believes that a player involved in fixing should not be welcomed back. In a recent interview on a local news channel, Raja stated, “My opinion on this is very simple. While sympathy may exist for him [Amir], in my book there is no forgiveness. If God forbid my son was to engage in such actions, I would disown him.”
Reflecting on the past, Raja recalled the tumultuous time when players were embroiled in fixing scandals, particularly the incident at Lord’s. He recounted the backlash faced by himself and others associated with the sport during that period.
Amir’s cricketing journey has been marred by controversy since he was banned from international cricket for five years by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2010, alongside Mohammad Asif and Salman Butt, in a spot-fixing case.

Following his return in 2016, he played a crucial role in Pakistan’s victory at the ICC Champions Trophy 2017. However, Amir announced his retirement from international cricket in 2020 citing “mental torture” under the management.
