Afghanistan’s leg-spinner Rashid Khan has overtaken Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi to claim the top spot in the ICC men’s ODI bowling rankings. The latest rankings, released on Wednesday, placed Afridi in second, with South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj in third.
Rashid’s rise comes after an outstanding performance in Pakistan’s historic series victory over Australia, where he took eight wickets at an average of 12.62. Afridi, who had held the top spot, was rested during Pakistan’s ongoing ODI series against Zimbabwe, allowing Rashid to leapfrog him in the rankings.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s Haris Rauf, who played a key role in the 2-1 win against Australia, slipped to 15th in the rankings. On the batting side, Pakistan’s emerging opener Saim Ayub climbed 80 places to 90th after a brilliant century in Pakistan’s 10-wicket win over Zimbabwe in the second ODI.
