Rashida Tlaib Protests Netanyahu’s Address with ‘War Criminal’ Sign

During Isr@eli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s address to a joint session of the US Congress, Michigan Representative Rashida Tlaib staged a protest by holding up a sign reading “war criminal.” Tlaib, the only P@lestinian American in Congress, also wore a P@lestinian flag pin and a keffiyeh, symbolizing her opposition to Isr@el’s actions in G@za.

Netanyahu’s speech received mixed reactions, with some lawmakers giving standing ovations while others chose to stay away. Thousands of protesters also gathered outside the Capitol.

Tlaib’s protest was part of a larger call from progressive lawmakers and human rights advocates for a US arms embargo on Isr@el and an immediate ceasefire. Representatives Ayanna Pressley, Greg Casar, Pramila Jayapal, and Cori Bush boycotted the speech, condemning the conflict as genocide.

Former Biden administration officials, who resigned over US policy towards Isr@el, joined the call for change. They emphasized the need for US policies that reflect American values and interests.

Senator Bernie Sanders also criticized Netanyahu’s address, calling it the first time a war criminal was honored by Congress. Vice President Kamala Harris and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi were among the notable absences from the event.
