Former Australian cricketer Shane Watson has reportedly turned down the opportunity to coach the Pakistan national team due to a disagreement over salary. Watson, currently coaching the Quetta Gladiators in the Pakistan Super League is said to have demanded a monthly salary of Pkr 1 crore which the Pakistan Cricket Board was unwilling to meet.
Coaching fees higher than players!
Despite the disappointment, the PCB is still determined to secure a strong coaching staff ahead of the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand. After Shane Watson’s disagreement, Mike Hesson and Daren Sammy are now among the contenders for the role as discussions with Hesson are ongoing.
The PCB may also consider appointing local coaches alongside foreign consultants to address the vacancy. With many well-known coaches already committed to various leagues worldwide, attracting top talent to the role may prove challenging.
