Tennis Fraternity Mourns The Loss Of Talented Young Player Zainab Naqvi

The Sindh Tennis Association (STA) finds itself in a state of mourning following the untimely passing of Ms. Zainab Ali Naqvi, a promising teenage tennis player hailing from Karachi. The news of Zainab’s tragic demise in Islamabad on February 12, 2024, has left the STA community and its president, Gulzar Firoz, alongside Senior Vice Presidents Muhammad Khalid Rehmani and Khalid Jamil Shamsi, deeply saddened.

The tragic incident

Zainab, who had traveled to the capital to participate in the ITF Juniors Tournaments, was just 18 years old when she succumbed, reportedly due to suspected heart failure. Zainab’s presence in the tennis circuit was marked by her exceptional talent and dedication.

Holding the esteemed second rank in Sindh and standing among the top eight junior girls nationwide, her achievements were laudable. Her legacy includes numerous victories in tournaments across Sindh, a testament to her skill and passion for the sport.

In a statement issued by the STA leadership, heartfelt condolences were extended to Zainab’s family and loved ones. The association expressed prayers for her soul to find eternal peace and solace in the highest abode of Jannah, as they bid farewell to a remarkable talent lost too soon. The ongoing ITF Junior Tennis Championship, where Zainab was competing, paused its proceedings in honor of her memory, postponing matches originally scheduled for Tuesday to Wednesday.

According to reports, Zainab had engaged in a practice session before retiring to a guest house in sector F-6, where she was staying with her grandmother, marking the tragic end to a promising career and a beloved member of the tennis community.
