Turkish President Erdogan Invites Elon Musk To Establish Tesla Factory In Turkey

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan extended an invitation to Tesla CEO Elon Musk to consider building a Tesla factory in Turkey during a meeting held at Turkish House in New York. The country’s communications directorate reported that Erdogan highlighted the existing collaboration between Turkish suppliers and Tesla and stressed that Turkey was a leading candidate for Tesla’s next manufacturing facility.

Elon Musk acknowledged the strong relationship between Tesla and Turkish suppliers and expressed that Turkey was indeed among the top contenders for their future factory location. However, Tesla has not yet officially responded to the invitation.

The meeting between Erdogan and Musk took place as part of Erdogan’s visit to the United States for the 78th session of the U.N. General Assembly. During their conversation, President Erdogan also expressed Turkey’s openness to cooperation in artificial intelligence and SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet venture. Musk conveyed SpaceX’s interest in working with Turkish authorities to obtain the necessary licenses to offer Starlink services in Turkey.

As a gesture of goodwill and collaboration, Erdogan invited Musk to attend the Turkish aerospace and technology festival, Teknofest, scheduled to take place in Izmir at the end of September. Musk accepted the invitation with enthusiasm, underscoring the potential for future partnerships between Tesla, SpaceX, and Turkey in the fields of technology and innovation.
