More Than 700,000 Pakistani Professionals Leave For Work Abroad In First Half Of 2024

In a new report by the Bureau of Immigration and Overseas Employment, it has been revealed that a large number of skilled Pakistani workers have left the country in the first six months of 2024.

Over 700,000 professionals have departed seeking job opportunities abroad. This trend has been ongoing in recent years and is driven by Pakistan’s uncertain economic situation, increasing inflation, and ongoing political instability.

The report highlights Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates as the top destinations for Pakistani workers. With both countries issuing a high number of visas. Additionally, Deputy Director Abdul Shakoor Soomro points towards an increased demand for skilled professionals in the United States and Europe.

This outflow of talent comes at a cost to Pakistan. The report acknowledges the negative impact of brain drain. It is a term used to describe the emigration of highly educated and skilled individuals. In 2022 alone, Pakistan lost critical personnel in various sectors, including doctors, engineers, IT experts, and teachers.

These figures add to a larger trend, as documented in a separate report by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). According to the FIA, over 8 million Pakistanis left the country in 2023, highlighting the significant scale of emigration in recent years.
