Arshad Nadeem has made history by winning Pakistan’s first Olympic gold medal in 32 years at the Paris 2024 Games, setting a new Olympic record in the men’s javelin final. Hailing from Mian Channu, Nadeem overcame a slow start with a no-throw on his first attempt but stunned the world with a monstrous 92.97-meter throw on his second attempt, leaving his competitors trailing behind.
This remarkable achievement not only secured Pakistan’s first individual gold medal in track and field but also shattered the previous Olympic record of 90.57 meters, set in 2008. Nadeem’s throw now stands as the sixth-longest in history and the best in the world this year.
The competition was fierce, with India’s Neeraj Chopra, the reigning world champion, settling for silver with an 89.45-meter throw and Grenada’s Anderson Peters taking bronze with 88.54 meters. Nadeem’s victory reignited the Pakistan-India rivalry, marking another chapter in their ongoing sports saga.
The triumph has brought nationwide celebrations. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and several other leaders, including Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and Sindh’s Murtaza Wahab, extended heartfelt congratulations.
CM Maryam Nawaz even announced a Rs.100 million reward and the establishment of Arshad Nadeem Sports City in Mian Channu, while Sindh pledged Rs.50 million and the creation of an athletics academy in Karachi.

In addition, ARY founder Salman Iqbal announced a luxury apartment for Arshad Nadeem as a gesture of appreciation. Prominent figures, including singer Ali Zafar, who announced a Rs.1 million reward, also lauded Nadeem’s achievement. Nadeem’s success has resonated globally, with celebrities like Akcent joining in the celebrations.
