Gary Kirsten has resigned as Pakistan’s head coach for ODI and T20I formats, just six months after taking the role in April 2024. His departure comes as Pakistan prepares for a crucial three-match ODI series against Australia. Reports suggest Kirsten felt excluded from major decisions regarding player selection and captaincy as a new selection committee assumed control.

Following Kirsten’s exit, Jason Gillespie, currently Pakistan’s red-ball team head coach, has been appointed as the interim head coach for the upcoming white-ball series in Australia. Under Gillespie’s leadership, Pakistan’s squad will be led by captain Mohammad Rizwan, with Salman Ali Agha serving as vice-captain.

The ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming tours have also been announced. Pakistan will face Australia from November 4-18, followed by a tour to Zimbabwe scheduled for November 24 to December 5. An official statement from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding Kirsten’s departure is expected soon.
