Khadijah Shah Accepts PTI Seat, Gives Up US Citizenship

Designer Khadijah Shah has announced that she will relinquish her US citizenship to accept a reserved National Assembly seat for women on the PTI ticket, offered by former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Pakistani law prohibits dual nationals from serving in parliament.

In an Instagram post, Shah expressed that the decision was challenging, given the freedom and opportunities afforded by her US citizenship. However, she emphasized her deep connection to Pakistan, her homeland, and her commitment to making a meaningful impact in the country. Shah expressed gratitude to Khan for the opportunity and pledged to live up to his expectations and those of her fellow citizens.

To address the dual nationality issue, Shah has nominated Mehrunnisa Sajjad to represent her temporarily. Sajjad, an Oxford graduate and barrister, was chosen for her dedication to advocating for marginalized communities in Pakistan. Shah praised Sajjad for her commitment to democracy and progress.
