The powerful documentary No Other Land has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Documentary, shining a spotlight on the harsh realities of Israel’s occupation of the West Bank. Directed by Israeli journalist Yuval Abraham and Palestinian journalist Basel Adra, the film captures the decades-long struggle in Masafar Yatta, a town at the heart of the conflict.
The documentary includes poignant footage from Adra’s childhood, documenting his activist father’s confrontations with Israeli soldiers and settlers to prevent the appropriation of Palestinian land. Despite lacking a US distribution deal, the film’s Oscar shortlist recognition reflects its global impact.
Previously awarded the Documentary Film Award at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2024, No Other Land sparked controversy when the directors condemned the occupation during their acceptance speech.
