Omar bin Laden, son of the late al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, has been expelled from France following comments on social media that French authorities deemed an “apology for terrorism.” Omar, 43, who has lived in Orne, Normandy, for several years, was removed after a 2023 post praised his father’s legacy.

The now-suspended social media account, OmarBinLadin1, posted a message on the anniversary of Osama bin Laden’s death, which praised “martyrs who made history” and referenced the “blood of these people” as central to faith. French authorities took action, indicting him for condoning terrorism before ultimately deporting him.

Omar, an artist who has exhibited paintings in France, was living in the country as the spouse of a British national. French Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau confirmed Omar’s expulsion on Tuesday, noting his social media comments as the reason for his removal.

Despite distancing himself from his father’s actions in the past, Omar’s recent comments have led to his expulsion from France.
