The Pakistani government has announced a new initiative to combat electricity theft and recover unpaid bills. The plan involves the formation of a special unit comprising officers from the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and Military Intelligence (MI) to assist the country’s Distribution Companies (DISCOs).

This move comes as the government acknowledges the significant financial burden placed on DISCOs due to electricity theft and line losses.

The Federal Secretary of the Power Division confirmed the plan, stating it’s still awaiting final approval but is intended to be implemented as a pilot project with the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO).
