In a remarkable display of courage, Yvonne Kinane-Wells, a real estate agent with no formal flight training, safely landed a twin-engine Beechcraft King Air 90 after her husband, Eliot Alper, the pilot, suffered a fatal heart attack mid-flight. The incident occurred while the couple was en route from Nevada to Monterey.
Kinane-Wells managed to bring the plane down safely at Meadows Field Airport in Bakersfield, California, with the assistance of air traffic control. Despite her heroic efforts, her 78-year-old husband was later pronounced dead after being hospitalized.
