LinkedIn Fined €310 Million by EU for Data Privacy Violations

Source: TechCrunch

LinkedIn has been fined €310 million (around USD 335 million) by the European Union for breaching data privacy laws. Ireland’s Data Protection Commission imposed the fine, citing LinkedIn’s lack of lawful, fair, and transparent processes in handling user data for advertising purposes.

The commission found that LinkedIn lacked a legal basis to collect data used in targeted ads, a direct violation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Deputy Commissioner Graham Doyle highlighted that processing personal data without a proper legal foundation is a serious infringement on privacy rights.

LinkedIn responded, asserting its belief in compliance with regulations but emphasized its commitment to aligning its advertising practices with EU standards.
