Pakistan cricket star Shaheen Afridi finds himself embroiled in a controversy off the field that could significantly impact his Test career. While Afridi showcased exceptional performances during the ODI series against South Africa, helping Pakistan secure a 3-0 victory, disciplinary concerns have cast a shadow over his future.

According to Cricket Pakistan, Afridi reportedly defied selectors’ instructions to participate in a four-day warm-up match ahead of the South Africa Test series. His refusal was labeled as “disobedience,” leading to his exclusion from the Test squad. Despite his readiness to commit to the series and offer mentorship to young pacers, Afridi was sent home under the pretext of “workload management.”

Interestingly, similar instructions were issued to team captain Babar Azam, who also declined the warm-up match. However, unlike Afridi, Babar escaped any punitive action and retained his place in the Test squad, raising questions about consistency in disciplinary measures.

Reports suggest growing discontent within the Pakistan team regarding one selector’s overbearing influence on decision-making. Afridi’s exclusion has fueled speculation about internal tensions and favoritism within the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

As disciplinary action looms, the PCB is yet to clarify its stance, while fans and players alike await resolution to ensure fairness and transparency in team management.
