In latest news, Pakistan’s emerging opener, Saim Ayub, etched his name in cricket history by breaking a 31-year-old record held by West Indian legend Brian Lara. The 22-year-old showcased an extraordinary innings in the first ODI against South Africa, played on Tuesday, scoring 109 runs off 119 balls and guiding Pakistan to a thrilling three-wicket victory.

Ayub’s remarkable knock, laced with 10 boundaries and three sixes, made him the youngest player to score a century against South Africa in an ODI while chasing. He surpassed Lara, who was 23 years old when he achieved a similar feat in 1991.

Additionally, Ayub became the youngest batter to score a chasing century on South African soil, breaking the record of former Proteas’ wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock, who accomplished this milestone against England in 2016.

This achievement places Ayub third on the list of youngest players to score an ODI century against South Africa. He follows Pakistan’s Ahmed Shehzad and New Zealand’s Kane Williamson, both of whom scored centuries in South Africa.
