A Swiss International Air Lines flight faced tragedy when a cabin crew member passed away following an emergency landing due to smoke inside the aircraft. The incident occurred on December 23, when an Airbus A220-300 flying from Bucharest to Zurich was forced to land in Graz, Austria, after smoke filled the cockpit and cabin.

The flight, carrying 74 passengers and five crew members, landed safely. However, one cabin crew member was airlifted to a hospital in Graz and admitted to intensive care, where he tragically passed away on December 25.

Another crew member and 12 passengers also received medical attention but have since been discharged.

Swiss International Air Lines expressed deep sorrow over the loss. Jens Fehlinger, the airline’s chief executive, stated, “We are devastated at our dear colleague’s death. Our thoughts are with his family, whose pain we cannot imagine.”

The airline, a subsidiary of Lufthansa, is working closely with authorities to investigate the incident. Swiss has indicated that the focus will be on the aircraft’s mechanical systems, such as the engine, and the effectiveness of protective breathing equipment for the crew.
